How to Play

The game revolves around identifying a secret "Imposter" within a group based on a shared secret word.

• The Setup: Players gather around a single device. Everyone is shown a secret word or category, except for one person—the Imposter—who receives no information or a "Fake" prompt.

• The Inquiry: Players take turns asking each other subtle questions related to the secret word. The goal is to prove you know the word without being so obvious that the Imposter can figure it out.

• The Deception: The Imposter must listen carefully to the questions and answers of others to blend in and answer convincingly when it is their turn.

• The Vote: After the discussion round, players vote on who they believe is the "Fake." If the Imposter is caught, the group wins; if the Imposter avoids detection or guesses the secret word, they win.

Strategy

• The "Vague but Valid" Rule: When it is your turn to speak, provide descriptions that are specific enough to satisfy those who know the word but broad enough to confuse someone who doesn't.

• Listen for Echoes: As the Imposter, pay attention to the first few players. They often set the "vibe" of the word. Use similar descriptors to what they have said, but try to rephrase them so you don't look like you are simply copying.

• Strategic Questioning: Ask questions that require a bit of niche knowledge about the topic. If a player hesitates too long or gives a generic "yes/no" style answer, they are likely your primary suspect.

• Mirroring and Misdirection: If you are the Imposter and get called out, try to confidently point the finger at another player who gave a slightly awkward answer. Creating a "tie" in the voting process is often your best chance of survival.
