Imposter Game - Party Edition

How to Play

The game is played on a single device that is passed around the group.

• The Assignment: Each player is shown a secret word, except for the "Imposter," who is given a different word or no information at all.

• The Description Phase: Players take turns giving a one-word or short-phrase description related to their secret word.

• The Investigation: After everyone has spoken, the group discusses who provided the most suspicious or "off" description.

• The Vote: Players vote on who they believe the Imposter is.

  • If the Imposter is caught, they may have one last chance to guess the group's secret word to win.

  • If the group fails to catch the Imposter, the Imposter wins.

Strategy

• The "Goldilocks" Description: As a regular player, your goal is to give a description that is not too obvious (which helps the Imposter guess the word) but not too vague (which makes you look like the Imposter).

• The Imposter’s Mirror: If you are the Imposter, try to go later in the turn order. This allows you to synthesize what others have said and provide a description that sounds like a synonym or a related concept to the prevailing "vibe."

• Watch for Hesitation: The "Imposter" often takes slightly longer to answer or uses very generic words (like "useful," "common," or "colorful"). Pay close attention to the timing and confidence of each player's response.

• Controlled Risk: If you suspect someone, ask them a follow-up question that requires a specific detail. A player with the correct word will usually be able to provide it easily, while an Imposter will struggle to stay consistent.
