1. Description
Developed by Jam City, Mahjong City Tours takes players on a virtual journey through world-famous cities like Paris, London, and Rio de Janeiro. The core gameplay involves finding and matching identical pairs of "free" tiles to clear the board. Unlike standard Mahjong, this version introduces various mission objectives—such as collecting souvenirs or rescuing "gummy bears"—and adds specialized mechanics like locked tiles and shifting board layouts.
World Tour Narrative: Progress through hundreds of levels set across dozens of real-world cities, each featuring unique backgrounds and cultural motifs.
Diverse Game Modes: Beyond simply clearing the board, players encounter modes like "Golden Tile" collection and "Timed Challenges."
Souvenir Collection: Collect rare items hidden within the tile stacks to complete city sets and earn permanent rewards.
Specialized Tile Types: Encounter tricky mechanics such as "Ice Tiles" that must be thawed or "Locked Tiles" that require a specific key match to open.
Offline Play: The game allows for progression without a constant internet connection, making it suitable for travel.
Treasure Chests: Regular rewards for performance, containing boosters, currency, and power-up components.
The Matching Rule: You can only match "free" tiles. A tile is considered free if it is not covered by another tile and has at least one side (left or right) unblocked.
Objective Tracking: Each level lists a specific goal at the start, such as "Collect 10 Blue Souvenirs" or "Clear all Golden Tiles."
Boosters: Use in-game tools like the Hint (highlights a pair), Shuffle (re-randomizes the board), or Fire-work (clears multiple pairs instantly) when you run out of visible moves.
Star Rating: Complete levels quickly and with fewer boosters to earn a 3-star rating, which is required to unlock subsequent cities.
Clear the Top Layers First: Always prioritize matching tiles that are sitting on top of large stacks. This reveals more tiles underneath, giving you a wider variety of matching options early in the game.
Focus on the Long Rows: Long horizontal or vertical rows are the biggest threat to a "Game Over." Match tiles on the ends of these rows as soon as possible to free up the tiles trapped in the middle.
Save Your Shuffles: Only use a Shuffle when the game explicitly tells you "No More Moves." Using a shuffle too early can actually break up existing pairs that you might have needed to uncover a hidden souvenir.
Look for "Identical Four": If you see four of the same tile available at once, match them all immediately. This clears a significant amount of the board without changing the availability of other pairs.
Check the "Season Pass": Even if you don't purchase the premium track, the free tier of the seasonal events provides essential boosters that help in passing the more difficult "Hard" levels in cities like Tokyo.
