Karl was one of the ones who survived after the earth was submerged in water due to global warming. He was drifting on a raft in the open sea, when he saw a figure being swept into a whirlpool. He recognized her as Lara, a history teacher he had met on a trip before the disaster. He did not hesitate to swim to save her, and they escaped the whirlpool. They clung to the raft and hoped to find land. After a while, they saw a deserted island in the distance. They struggled to swim to the island and stepped ashore. They looked around and saw the desolation of the island. There was no sign of life, only dry trees and piles of rubble. They did not know if the island was dangerous or not, but they knew they had no other choice.
