### **⚠️ Critical Status Update (2026)**

As of **October 31, 2025**, the servers for *Beatstar* were **permanently shut down**. 

* **The Game is Offline:** While you might still find the Google Play listing or old APK files, the game requires a server connection to function. Since the servers are dark, the game is **no longer playable**.

* **App Store Removal:** The game was removed from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store in August 2025 to prevent new downloads before the final sunset.

1. **Supercell Acquisition:** In late 2024, Supercell (the makers of *Clash of Clans*) fully acquired Space Ape Games.

2. **NextBeat Spin-off:** The music game division of Space Ape spun off into a new independent studio called **NextBeat** to continue managing *Beatstar*.

3. **Duolingo Acquisition:** In August 2025, the language-learning giant **Duolingo** acquired the majority of the team at NextBeat to bolster their new **Duolingo Music** course. 

4. **Sunset:** With the development team moving to Duolingo and the high costs of maintaining music licenses, the decision was made to sunset *Beatstar* and its sibling, *Country Star*.
