Game Overview:
The Campaign: A direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the story follows Task Force 141—an elite multi-national special operations unit led by Captain Soap MacTavish—as they hunt for the Russian ultranationalist Vladimir Makarov. It features some of the series' most famous missions, including "Cliffhanger" and the controversial "No Russian."
Multiplayer: This entry introduced several staples to the franchise, including customizable Killstreaks (like the Harrier Strike and Tactical Nuke), the "Pick-10" predecessor weapon attachments, and an extensive prestige and emblem system.
Special Ops: A dedicated cooperative mode (separate from the campaign) that features 23 unique missions designed for two players to tackle via split-screen or online play.
Backwards Compatibility: You can play this original Xbox 360 disc or digital license on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
Performance Enhancements: On Xbox Series X|S, the game benefits from Auto HDR and steadier frame rates. It also supports FPS Boost on compatible Xbox consoles, allowing the game to run smoother than it did on the original 2009 hardware.
Online Status: The multiplayer servers remain active. In recent years, Microsoft updated the matchmaking backend for legacy Call of Duty titles, making it much easier for players on modern consoles to find matches in classic lobbies.
Please note that this is the 2011 original, not the Modern Warfare II reboot released in 2022.
If you are looking for the game with the "DMZ" mode and modern graphics, that is a different listing.
If you are looking for the high-definition cinematic remaster of just the single-player story, that is titled Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered.
Genre: First-Person Shooter.
Price: Standard price is $19.99, but it frequently goes on sale during Xbox franchise events.
Rating: M for Mature (Blood, Drug Reference, Intense Violence, Language).
